The project is intended <strong>to provide a practical solution for mass decarbonisation of road transport using the Electric Road System<\/strong> (ERS).<\/p><p>This technology, identified by the French Ministry for Ecological Transition and Regional Cohesion in a study published in 2021, is shifting the paradigm of electric transport by <strong>enabling vehicles to be powered and recharged while they are in motion<\/strong>.<\/p><p>The principle of the eRoadMontBlanc project is based on <strong>a ground-level power supply system<\/strong> (French: alimentation par le sol \u2013 <strong>APS<\/strong>). This technology was developed by Alstom for trams over 20 years ago and will be adapted for road use. The tests are intended to validate the technologies implemented and guarantee the safety of the system and road users.<\/p><p>This phase of testing assesses how well the system works and its performance under a range of different conditions:<\/p><ul><li><span class=\"puce_bleu\">Compatibility with winter conditions,<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"puce_bleu\">Interoperability between various types of vehicles (commercial vehicles, trucks, etc.),<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"puce_bleu\">Compatibility with specific road configurations (curves, high gradients, etc.),<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"puce_bleu\">Flexibility of lateral collection,<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"puce_bleu\">Contact energy transfer efficiency (\u2265 97%),<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"puce_bleu\">Power transfer of up to 500 kW (for heavy goods vehicles), enabling the vehicle to be powered and the batteries to be recharged at the same time.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p>Alongside this, the Universit\u00e9 Gustave Eiffel is developing a digital twin to simulate the system, as a means of optimising the number of items of infrastructure to be deployed.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dde3e12 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"dde3e12\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3>Phase 2<\/h3><div id=\"attachment_979\" style=\"width: 760px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-979\" src=\"https:\/\/eroad-montblanc.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/projet-2etapes-Phase2_projet-1024x512.jpg\" alt=\"Projet phase 2\" width=\"750\" height=\"375\" class=\"wp-image-979 size-large\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eroad-montblanc.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/projet-2etapes-Phase2_projet-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/eroad-montblanc.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/projet-2etapes-Phase2_projet-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/eroad-montblanc.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/projet-2etapes-Phase2_projet-768x384.jpg 768w, https:\/\/eroad-montblanc.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/projet-2etapes-Phase2_projet.jpg 1140w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-979\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 ATMB<\/p><\/div><p><strong>Phase 2 of the project involves transferring the experiment to the ATMB network by 2026\/2027<\/strong>, with full-scale trials on one kilometre of the RN205 road, towards Chamonix and Italy, at the base of the Mont Blanc. The tests are intended to validate the principle of dynamic recharging and to meet motorway requirements in the areas of safety, sturdiness and maintainability, particularly in terms of winter serviceability.<\/p><p><strong>The configuration of this phase will represent several world firsts<\/strong>. The first section of permanent electric road will be built and operated in a critical environment: 1,000 meters above sea level with an average gradient of 4%. The trials will also test interoperability with three types of vehicles: a commercial vehicle, a coach and a truck.
